555 Road Deaths during July and August 2007

With the roads at their heaviest last weekend as the Spanish headed home from their coastal retreats back to the cities there were 20 fatalities, which as slightly lower than the same weekend of 2006. Five of these deaths came as a result of one accident in Lleida where the passengers were killed as a result of a head on collision between a car and a caravan on the C-25 road in Les Oluges. Sadly the vicitims included seven year old boy who was said to have been travelling in the front seat of the car.

From the evidence collated thus far it appears that the Romanian registered Caravan veered on to the wrong side of the road causing the head on crash.

Taking the summer as a whole (July and August) seventeen more people lost their lives on the Spanish roads when compared to last year, equating to a total summer deat toll of 555.
