The different Airports serving the Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol is well served in terms of Airports, with the furthest town on the Costa del Sol being a maximum of between 1 and 1 1/2 hours away from the nearest airport.

The majority of tourists will tend to fly in to Malaga AGP Airport which is located just outside of the city centre of Malaga. Depending which way you are approaching the airport depends which exit you will need but both are very well sign-posted and the airport is just a few minutes from the motorway exit.

The other airport that serves the Costa del Sol is Gibraltar Airport which is located just across the border from the town of La Linea on the most southerly tip of the Costa del Sol.

Which Costa del Sol Airport should you choose?

Although many people use Malaga Airport due to the higher number of flights available and the flexibility of flight times, Gibraltar Airport is a good option for those staying anywhere between Marbella and the western side such as Estepona, Manilva, Casares, Sotogrande etc.

Marbella is really the mid-way point being about an hour to either Malaga Airport and Gibraltar Airport. Anyone staying east of Malaga would be better off using Malaga Airport as it is much closer that Gibraltar.

Gibraltar has more flights than in previous years due to an agreement between the UK, Gibraltar and Spain but there is still a limit to the number of flights and the airlines that can fly there.
